Originally an employee at one of the few Anti-Agathics companies, those that developed the techniques to extend human live well into the hundreds of years, something that has alongside Time Travel, and implant education, drastically altered the course of civilization and day to day life for people.
Lucas sucumed to the recruiter pitch when the Temporal Forces came through, as a chance for something different, as he had become a bit bored with the day to day routine. Coming towards the events of the first mission, Lucas found himself starting to become quite cynical and tired of his role. With the opportunity offered to him after the success of his first mission performing an adjustment and not just straight soldier duty, he took it, and mustered out, returning to civilian life with a sizable promotion.
Unfortunately he once again found himself confronted with the day to day drudgery, and now had an even more expanded understanding of what was possible out there. And when the recruiter once again came around, found himself talking himself into re-enlisting.
As his career continues (throughout the series) he stands out as the "leader" of his team of temporal agents, and is soon elevated to 2nd in command of the 1st Division as a whole, under Forrester. He develops an excellent working relationship and friendship with his teammates Delaney and Andre. Learning to overlook Delaney' eccentricity off mission and take great value in his experience and intelligence. While slowly developing an ever closer relationship with Andre.
In a mission that finally spills the Time War open, Lucas' love of history and actual pursual of written books as historical artifacts to enjoy comes into play when he recognizes a young Winston Churchill, that no one else can recall due to tampering with their implant programming. And in a heroic effort sacrifices himself to save his life.
Amazingly this is not the end of Lucas.
Dr. Darkness, in his slightly psychopathic way, saves Lucas a fraction of a second before death, replacing him with a double, and whisks him off to his lab to be the first test subject for his new temporal transponder, one controlled by subconscious thought.
