When Dr. Mensinger founded the Temporal Preservation League it was after his disillusionment with the militarization and structures that had formed around time travel. His purpose at the time was to lobby and demonstrate to try and drive policy to abandon the Time Wars as a venture that the world was undertaking.
After the publishing of “Theories of Temporal Relativity,” and his failure at T-SALT to get anywhere beyond the general agreement that his theories and discoveries were true regarding the dangers of continued use of time travel, and the overall apathy about changing course to avoid what Mensinger saw as the inevitable outcome, his leaving broken, and eventual suicide sparked off some of his more ardent followers.
Following his suicide, violent demonstrations sprung up immediately, protesting the war machine that in their view eschewed truth and science to further their own militaristic and power hungry ends. Shortly afterwards the more violent members spun out of the still peace oriented Temporal Preservation League, forming the Timekeepers decidedly more action focused “terrorist” group voicing their dedication to bringing down the war machine at all cost. Their emergence in the world stage was led by the coordinated actions of assassinating three high ranking Referee’s, and bombing a Council of Nations meeting, killing several heads of state.
This both brought them into the open, and made them the focus of a newly reinvigorated and angry TIA.
