This story starts introducing the more espionage tinged elements of this series, with the appearance of the TIA, the spooks of the setting. This entails a fair amount of deception of allies and double crosses.
Lucas & Finn return to active duty, and they and First Division are roped into a TIA operation as word is received that the Timekeepers have changed tactics from terrorist activities in Plus Time, to ransoming all of history. They claim to have a chronoplate, and will cause a massive Time Split, unless the entire apparatus of the Time Wars isn’t dismantled. Our leads are sent back to Renaissance France, to try and avert this crisis, under the direction of Mongoose (TIA agents use animal code names).
Hunter & Andre have left 12th century England, also arrived in France in the same period, to get an implant for Andre from a contact in the Underground, following directly from the events of the first story.
What follows is a game of cat and mouse, with the Timekeepers, led by the insane but brilliant Taylor, who has turned himself into Milady De Winter to further his plans, and intermixing with the players of the period, the Three Musketeers and d'Artagnan, the Duke of Buckingham and Cardinal Richelieu.
Hunter is killed while searching out his doctor contact, who has gotten involved with the Timekeepers, and is mistaken for an agent out to get them, leaving Andre to fend for herself. She joins up with the doctor, and then end up crossing paths with Lucas & Finn, who have been shadowing the Musketeers on orders of Mongoose, under the assumption that they would end up being pivotal to whatever Taylor’s plot might be.
In the end it is revealed that Mongoose had gotten so fixated on the competition between him and Taylor, that he was diverting all his resources to follow along with the Musketeers on their ride to England to retrieve the Queen’s jewels, while he intended to apprehend Taylor himself. Unfortunately he was outmaneuvered, discovered by Andre and is captured and tortured by Taylor.
Finn, Lucas & Andre along with the TIA second in command Cobra, end up converging on the palace, to stop Taylor, now completely insane and fully assuming the personality of Milady De Winter, from assassinating the King, Queen, and Cardinal, creating a Time Split that would be nigh impossible to correct.Once they manage to capture him, they clock back to Plus Time, bringing Andre with them, and offering her a place along with them in the Temporal Corps.
